We All Grieve Differently

After the untimely death of Jack the cat, my son the almost 2 year old has been acting very strange. And by strange I mean I think I am gonna go online and research a good shrink for him just to get a head start before it becomes court mandated. His odd behavior? He is now acting like a dog. All the time. He barks. He wants me to scratch him on his head. He pants when he is asked to say please. He rolls around on the floor and has just started to crawl everywhere lapping at the air? If I didn't find it so cute I might really be concerned for the boy's mental health.

I have to admit I am a bit of an enabler. I mean who doesn't want to play fetch with their kid? I ask him he wants a treat, or if he needs to go outside, or wants to take a walk. Purely for my own twisted amusement. I will draw the line however at putting a leash on him, or installing a fire hydrant in the playroom. The kids gotta have some boundaries right? Maybe Jack's spirit came back to freak me out as a dog disguised as a little red headed two year old?

My daughter did the same thing for a LONG TIME when she was about his age. She would even eat her food out of a bowl and lap up water like a dog. I never caught her drinking out of the toilet, though...

Maybe he'll take after her next obsession, too, which was constantly wearing a cow girl outfit.. then you might have to take him to counselling!

he is adorable. We all deal with that kind of thing differently. Kids just do what they gotta do.

Too cute!! I'm sure it'll pass... someday.

It's a phase. Hopefully he will be past it soon. Unless you can get him to fetch snacks and drinks....

Maybe he's on to something. I think I might try his tactics the next time I need some freedom to express grief.

Sorry, that is just too cute! And at least you'll know where his loyalty lies!

Poor kid. Make sure you suck all the blog material out of this before seeking help though. Priorities.

Awww.....

Yeah, but when kids put on that cute act, who can't help but enable it?!

Maybe he's just trying to please you and be your replacement pet, but he's more inclined to doghood than cathood.

Hey I don't know how to follow you if you don't have followers on your page. I'm so technically inept. Help.

I had to get my girls to stop doing this. I can't afford preschool AND pet licenses.

Ha! My kid became a t-rex for a period of time as well. I guess they all go through it!

Hey I found it; it seems your page wasn't loading properly before...it is now. I sometimes have trouble with that, but I'm in baby :)

Found you through Martini Mom. This is sweet. I subbed in a 6th grade class on one girl was a dog the whole time. Barking and the whole thing. So, maybe yours is precocious:)
